Typhoid

Typhoid is a bacterial infection which can occur after ingesting contaminated food. It is more common in certain parts of the world, especially where there may not be easy access to clean water.

Symptoms of infection include abdominal pain / cramps, diarrhoea and fever.
Typhoid is usually treated with antibiotics and rehydrating. Without the correct treatment the disease can be life threatening.

Prevention is the best strategy against Typhoid. Ensure you only drink bottled or boiled water. In addition, vaccination can significantly lower your risk. This can be given as either oral capsules (3 doses) or an injection.

It is recommended you get vaccinated at least 2 weeks before travelling.

Key points:
• At least 2 weeks before travel
